One of my newest, and most favorite, workout companion apps is called Fitbod and is available in the iOS app store.
Fitbod is a great combination of “workout recommendation app” alongside a “workout tracking app” that does so in an attractive user interface that even comes with an Apple Watch app.
What sets this app apart is the variety of features and how those come together in a cohesive package that makes a lot of sense for the “do it yourself” type of home weight lifter.
Here are the best features in my opinion:
- You can specify what exercise and/or gym equipment you have access to
- You can specify the days you want to workout in order to receive reminders and previews of your next workout
- The app will automatically create your workouts, based on your equipment, goal, and amount of time you have available
- The app keeps track of your workouts and doesn’t overwork your muscle groups – it waits until they’re sufficiently recovered
- You can specify recovery timers between exercises and add/replace exercises easily during your workout
- The app automatically calculates your calorie burn based on weights, your stats, and your heart rate (through Apple Watch)
The most convenient aspect is that recording your reps and weight from the Apple Watch is incredibly simple. Plus it automatically starts the recovery timer on your watch when you record a set and buzzes when it’s time for the next set.
The app does make you pay for a subscription, but the annual rate is not too high especially if it meets the needs and is utilized on a consistent routine basis.
